Montoya Shines in Melville

MELVILLE, SK — Alexandro Montoya turned aside all 39 shots he faced to record his first SJHL shutout, backstopping the Yorkton Terriers to an impressive 5–0 road victory over the Melville Millionaires.

The Terriers opened the scoring in the first period with the lone goal of the frame. William Léonard continued his scorching form, finding the back of the net after scoring twice the night before. Gabrielle Courchesne and Jye Zawatsky picked up the helpers.

Both special-teams units were quiet early, with Melville going 0-for-3 on the power play and Yorkton finishing 0-for-1.

Montoya stopped all 12 shots he faced in the opening period, while at the other end Fuzz Aafedt turned aside 9 of 10.

Yorkton extended their lead in the second when Vinay Junek streaked down the right wing and fired a shot off the pad, perfectly setting up Aidan Vallance, who buried his second of the season. Montoya continued to shine, turning away all 16 shots he faced in the middle frame, including two Melville power plays.

The Terriers kept their foot on the gas in the third. Courchesne hammered home his ninth of the campaign to make it 3–0, and less than two minutes later Vallance struck again to extend the lead. In the late stages, the power play went to work, with Junek tapping in his fifth of the year to cap off the scoring at 5–0.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 11-9-1 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday night in Estevan.
