Léonard, Montoya Help Lift Terriers Past Bombers

YORKTON, SK – William Léonard scored twice on the power play and Alexandro Montoya turned aside 47 of 49 shots as the Yorkton Terriers downed the Flin Flon Bombers on home ice.

The first period belonged to the Terriers’ special teams. Yorkton killed off a pair of early penalties before their power play took over, striking three times with the man advantage.

Thomas Ries opened the scoring, wiring home his fourth of the season from the high slot, assisted by Vinay Junek and Ryder McDonald. Moments later, Mattias Schoffner snapped in his second of the campaign, with McDonald and Jake Briltz drawing helpers.

Léonard capped off the dominant frame by ripping a shot top shelf for his fourth of the year, with Jye Zawatsky picking up the assist.

Terriers goaltender Alexandro Montoya was sharp early, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the opening twenty minutes.

In the second period, Yorkton’s power play kept rolling. Léonard finished off a slick passing play at the side of the net for his second of the night and fifth of the season. Montoya continued to stand tall, turning aside all 22 Flin Flon shots in the frame for a two-period total of 35 saves.

The Bombers finally broke through in the third with a pair of power-play goals to make it 4–2. But the Terriers answered right back, as Gabriel Courchesne blocked a shot at the blue line, raced in on a breakaway, and slipped it five-hole to restore the three-goal cushion.

The victory marks back-to-back wins for the orange and black, who now turn their attention to a home-and-home set with the Melfort Mustangs starting Friday night in Melfort.
