The Yorkton Terriers opened the scoring in the first period, striking off the rush as Tyler Palin jumped up in the neutral zone and sprung Ryder McDonald on a breakaway. McDonald made no mistake, finishing with a slick backhand deke for his fifth goal of the season.
The Klippers responded just over six minutes later during a goal-mouth scramble, as a loose puck landed on the stick of Rylan Wieler, who beat a sprawling Callum Creig in the Terriers’ crease.
Yorkton carried the play in the opening frame, outshooting Kindersley 16–8.
The two teams traded goals in the middle frame. Pryce Thiessen opened the scoring in the period, sliding a backhand under the arm of Creig to give the visitors their first lead of the night.
That advantage was short-lived, as Yorkton native Vinay Junek answered just 28 seconds later. Junek cut into the slot and slipped the puck under the pad of Brett O’Halloran to tie the game, marking his 11th goal of the season. Rookie forward Cash Lanigan picked up the lone assist.
Through forty minutes, the Terriers held a 28–20 edge in shots on goal.
In the third period, Gavin Bartha made an immediate impact after stepping out of the penalty box, ripping his second goal of the year past O’Halloran to restore Yorkton’s lead at 3–2.
Kindersley answered back, however, as Brock Evans backhanded a puck over the shoulder of Creig to tie the game 3–3.
The contest appeared destined for overtime late in the final frame, but Gabriel Courchesne had other ideas. Courchesne picked up the puck in the neutral zone, raced into the offensive end, and snapped his 23rd goal of the season short side, sending the Terriers faithful into a frenzy and giving Yorkton its third lead of the night.
Drew Hiel added an empty-net goal to seal the win as the Terriers skated away with a 5–3 victory.
Creig finished the night with 22 saves, earning his 16th win of the season.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night in Yorkton, with puck drop set for 7:00 PM.
