YORKTON, SK — Cash Lanigan scored with 1:10 remaining in overtime as the Yorkton Terriers defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 4–3.
The opening twenty minutes featured a single goal, despite the Terriers unleashing a barrage of shots toward goaltender Riley Zezel.
Following a sustained offensive zone shift, Gavin Bartha found Thomas Ries at the top of the circle, and he ripped his 15th of the season past Zezel to give Yorkton a 1–0 lead.
The Ice Wolves went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Terriers were unable to convert on their brief 29-second man advantage. Yorkton dominated the shot clock, outshooting La Ronge 20–7 in the opening frame.
In the second period, the visitors pulled even as Dayton Tailfeathers snapped a shot high glove side past Callum Creig to tie the game.
Both teams had power play opportunities but were unable to convert. The Terriers maintained the shot advantage, leading 25–17 after forty minutes.
In the third period, the Ice Wolves grabbed their first lead of the night when former Terrier Quinn Tavender beat Creig low blocker shorthanded to make it 2–1.
The Terriers’ offence responded with a pair of goals. First, Austin Horbachewsky stripped a Wolves defender at the blue line and deposited his fourth of the season shorthanded to tie the game 2–2.
Yorkton grabbed the lead shortly after when Jye Zawatsky dazzled with a toe-drag backhand roof shot for his 24th of the season.
The visitors answered again with 2:10 remaining, as Tailfeathers jammed home a loose puck in the crease to deadlock the game and send it to overtime.
In the extra frame, Cash Lanigan burst down the left wing and slipped the puck five-hole for the 4–3 victory. The goal was the rookie’s 14th of the season.
Creig stopped 23 shots on the night to earn his 24th win of the season.
With the win, the Terriers move four points clear of Weyburn with two games in hand. They return to action Friday night at home against Nipawin.
