Junek Scores in 100th SJHL Game as Terriers Fall to Weyburn

It was a night where momentum swings defined the game, but an early surge from the visitors proved too much for the Yorkton Terriers to overcome.

The Terriers’ offence came out flying, generating an early breakaway opportunity for captain Tylan Henrikson, but he was denied by Weyburn goaltender Tyler Stevenson.

Despite outshooting the Red Wings 5–0 to start the game, it was the visitors who opened the scoring. Callace Pearce slid a shot under the pads of Callum Creig to give Weyburn the early lead.

The Red Wings struck twice more less than two minutes apart, as Will Munro and Drew Molde both ripped shots high under the crossbar to extend the lead to 3–0. The flurry spelled the end of Creig’s night, as he allowed three goals on five shots.

Following the goaltending change, the Terriers responded immediately. Cash Lanigan snapped home his 19th goal of the season short side on Stevenson to cut into the Weyburn lead.

Both teams finished the period 0-for-1 on the power play, while Yorkton held a slight edge in shots on goal.

In the middle frame, the visitors found the scoresheet once again—this time while shorthanded—as Pearce beat Alexandro Montoya blocker side to restore the three-goal lead.

The Terriers answered back once more, cutting into the deficit when Mattias Schoffner just snuck his fourth goal of the season over the goal line to make it a two-goal game.

Weyburn responded with a power-play marker of their own, as Adam Savage-Keller snapped a shot under the glove of Montoya to extend the lead to 5–2.

The Red Wings outshot Yorkton 13–10 in the second period.

In the third, the Terriers clawed back within one when Vinay Junek jammed home a loose puck in the crease. The Yorkton native was also suiting up in his 100th SJHL game.

Yorkton had a chance to get even closer on a power play midway through the period but couldn’t capitalize.

Will Munro sealed the Terriers’ fate late in the frame, snapping home his second of the night to give Weyburn a 6–3 lead.

Montoya stopped 20 of 23 shots in relief.

The Terriers will look to regroup Sunday afternoon when they travel to Melfort to face the Mustangs. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM.
