It’s not every day you trade for a player early in the season and watch him instantly transform into a perfect fit. But that’s exactly what the Yorkton Terriers got with Keenan Ingram.
Since being acquired from the Weyburn Red Wings in an early-season deal, Ingram has been nothing short of outstanding. In just 17 games in a Terrier uniform, the 6’4″ Calgary native has racked up 12 goals and 20 points, producing at over a point-per-game pace. His impact has been particularly evident on the team’s top-ranked power play, where he leads the squad with five goals on the man advantage.
A big part of Ingram’s smooth transition has been his familiarity with Terriers Head Coach and General Manager Emery Olauson. The two share a history dating back to Ingram’s Rookie of the Year campaign with the Columbia Valley Rockies of the KIJHL, where he recorded a stellar 74 points. That connection has been instrumental in helping Ingram hit the ground running in Yorkton.
“Having a coach who trusts you when you’re traded to a new team makes a huge difference,” Ingram said. “I really enjoy playing for Emery. He trusted me a lot the last time he coached me, and I have a ton of respect for how he manages his team and players. When I had the chance to play for him again, it was an easy decision.”
While Ingram’s heavy shot remains his standout skill, his two-way game has shown significant growth under Olauson’s guidance. It’s a development that has added even more depth to his already impressive skill set.
When asked about his playing style, Ingram cited NHL star Auston Matthews as an influence.
“I love the way Auston Matthews plays,” Ingram said. “I’ve spent a lot of time working on my shot. Growing up, I had a shooting tarp in my basement and practiced every day.”
The Terriers are in prime position to make their first postseason appearance since 2022, and as the season progresses, his contributions will be a a key factor to success
