Henrikson Gets Nod For Viking Cup Tournament

Yorkton Terriers captain Tylan Henrikson has been named to the SJHL roster for the upcoming Viking Cup in Camrose, Alberta, joining teammate Jye Zawatsky in representing the league at the prestigious event.

Henrikson, currently in his final season with the Terriers, has served as team captain this year and continues to be a key contributor on and off the ice. The 20-year-old forward has recorded 14 points in 22 games this season while playing a leadership role in Yorkton’s lineup.

“Obviously I was super excited,” said Henrikson. “Looking at the history of the Viking Cup, it’s a pretty prestigious tournament so it’s a huge honour to be able to participate in it. I just want to find ways to contribute and play my game and ultimately win the tournament at the end of the day.”

The Viking Cup will feature top 20-year-old players from leagues across the world and provides an opportunity to compete against older, more experienced competition—something Henrikson views as valuable as he prepares for the next step in his hockey career.

“Playing against older guys will be a good experience as it will help prepare me for next year moving into that college level,” he said. “Also just taking some knowledge back with me from the coaching staff and other players from around the league will be beneficial as well.”

Being selected to the SJHL team is also a point of pride for Henrikson, who believes the recognition can help fuel a strong second half of the season for both himself and the Terriers.

“It’s a huge confidence booster for sure, to be viewed as one of the top 20 y/o players in the league,” Henrikson added. “I think I can use that to my advantage to have a big second half and help our team achieve our goal of bringing a championship of our own back to Yorkton.”

Henrikson and Zawatsky will represent the Terriers and the SJHL when the Viking Cup gets underway in Camrose later this season.
