MELVILLE, SK – The Yorkton Terriers exploded for five goals in the third period to power their way to a thrilling come-from-behind 6–3 road victory over the Melville Millionaires.
The opening period featured just one goal, coming off the stick of Wesley Olson on the power play, with Boston Harkness and Kale Margolis collecting assists. Both teams had their share of man-advantage opportunities, with the Millionaires outshooting the Terriers 15–11 through 20 minutes.
In the second period, both sides traded power play goals.Preston Baerwald extended Melville’s lead to 2–0 with his second of the season, but the Terriers answered quickly as William Léonard capitalized for his second of the campaign, cutting the deficit to one.
The Millionaires held a 30–19 shot advantage after two periods, as Yorkton goaltender Alexandro Montoya was forced to make several key saves to keep his team within striking distance.
Early in the third, the Terriers tied the game less than two minutes in when Vinay Junek buried his third of the season past Kael Svenson. The Millionaires briefly regained the lead when Keil Schmalz beat Montoya to make it 3–2, but from there, it was all Yorkton.
The Terriers erupted for four unanswered goals to take control — Léonard netted his second of the night, while rookies Mattias Schoffner and Drew Heil each scored their first SJHL goals. Jye Zawatsky added a power-play marker to round out the scoring.
Montoya earned his first SJHL victory, stopping 40 shots in the win.
The Terriers will look to keep their winning ways going on Wednesday when they return home to host the Flin Flon Bombers at Westland Arena.
