Farewell to the 20s: Vinay Junek

“Growing up in Yorkton and going to Terriers games as a kid, I always said how cool it would be to wear that jersey one day.”

Enter Vinay Junek—who lived out that dream over his final two junior seasons in the Orange and Black. But the road to get there wasn’t an easy one.

Three years ago, Junek took his talents to the Princeton Posse of the KIJHL, where he put up an impressive 49 points in 44 games. That performance helped him earn his opportunity in Yorkton, where he quickly became a trusted and reliable presence for Head Coach Emery Olauson and his staff over the last two seasons.

This past season marked another step forward in Junek’s development. His game—and leadership—reached new heights, as he set career highs with 21 goals and 45 points while also serving in an assistant captain role.

Reflecting on his time with his hometown team, Junek pointed to the people and the culture as what he’ll remember most.

“Being able to play in front of the best community and fans. The culture we built in the rink and around town has grown and is something people want to be a part of. The friendships and people I’ve met, and the memories with them.”

Like many Terriers this season, Junek made a strong impact off the ice as well, becoming a staple in the community—something he says helped him grow as a person.

“Being able to go out in the community and interact with people I know, and just to be able to promote the Terriers. Over the last two years, I’ve definitely learned a lot and have grown up.”

While there’s no set plan yet for what’s next, Junek hopes to pursue college or university opportunities to continue both his education and hockey career.

When it was all said and done, Junek suited up in 103 regular season games, scoring 35 goals and recording 74 points. He also played a key role in the Terriers’ run to the Canterra Seeds Cup Final, posting 12 points in 17 playoff games.

The Terriers organization thanks Vinay for his hard work and dedication over the past two seasons, and wishes him all the best in the next chapter.

Once a Terrier, Always a Terrier.
