The final twenty-year-old we recognize is defenceman Riley Cormier.
The Vernon, BC product began his junior career in his home province with the Columbia Valley Rockies of the KIJHL — ironically coached by Emery Olauson.
When Olauson accepted the head coaching job in Yorkton a year later, he brought the hard-nosed defender with him.
Cormier reflected on his time in the Parkland Region.
“I’ll remember the boys the most — the hard practices, the long bus rides, the late nights and early mornings. We had a really tight group here. Every day, we came to the rink working toward the same goal.”
Cormier says his time in Yorkton helped shape him both on and off the ice.
“Coming to Yorkton helped me grow a lot as a player and as a person. The community here was special, and I’ll always remember Westland Arena as one of the best places to play junior hockey.”
Cormier suited up in 140 regular season games in the Orange and Black, scoring 11 goals while adding 29 assists.
The hard-nosed defenceman was never shy about mixing it up either, often the first to stand up for his teammates, racking up 343 penalty minutes throughout his Terriers tenure.
We thank Riley for his hard work and dedication to the Terriers program over the past three seasons and wish him all the best moving forward.
