HUMBOLDT, SK: The Yorkton got goals from six players as they defeated the Humboldt Broncos on the road for the first time since February 2020.
The Yorkton Terriers flying offence came as advertised in the opening twenty minutes inside Elgar Petersen Arena.
Just 2:08 into the hockey game, William Léonard made a pass to Captain Jaron Desnoyers, and he split the defence with a pretty toe drag and roofed it over Edouard Gauthier for a 1-0 lead.
The Terriers would strike again, as Jye Zawatsky took a shot towards the net, and it went off a Bronco defender, doubling the visitor’s lead. The goal was Zawatsky’s first of the campaign.
The Broncos got into penalty trouble midway through the first period as the Terriers got a pair of powerplays, but they failed to convert.
The visitors would strike again in the dying seconds of the opening frame as Defenceman Riley Cormier took a shot from the right point, and it made its way past Gauthier. It was Cormier’s second goal in as many games.
The Broncos outshot the Terriers 13-10 in the first period.
In the second period, the Broncos got on the scoresheet as Rylan Hue backhanded one glove side, cutting the Terrier’s lead to two.
They would nearly cut the lead in half after Jacoob Strizzi had a breakaway, but Farrow stood tall with a big stop.
Late in the second period, the Terriers would get a golden opportunity to add to their lead with a lengthy 5 on 3, and the powerplay finally broke through as Aiden Knutson tipped it home at the side of the net for his first of the season; restoring the three-goal lead.
The Terriers nearly added another as David Coyle and Zwastky raced in on a 2 on 1, but Gauthier made a terrific stop keeping it 4-1.
The shots after forty minutes were 22-21 in favour of Yorkton.
In the third period, the Terriers continued to add to the lead as Carter Briltz found Tylan Henrikson out front for his first of the season.
The Broncos got one back after a Tre Fouquette’s point shot found its way past Farrow, cutting the lead to 5-2.
The visitors would ice the game late as Coyle deposited the puck into the empty net, sending the home crowd toward the exits and sealing a 6-2 Terriers win.
With the win, the Terriers improve to 3-0 on the season, and they will be back in action tomorrow night at home vs the Kindersley Klippers.
