Courchesne Scores Two, Terriers Fall 4-3 on Road

The Melfort Mustangs opened the scoring as Lincoln Rogers wrapped his second goal of the season past Alexandro Montoya.

The Yorkton Terriers answered off the stick of Gabriel Courchesne, who was sprung loose on a breakaway and slipped his 31st of the season five-hole past Madden Mulawka to tie the game 1–1. Tylan Henrikson and Gavin Bartha picked up the assists on the equalizer.

The home side regained the lead late in the frame when Danton Cox beat Montoya to make it 2–1.

Yorkton held a slight edge in shots through the opening period, outshooting Melfort 9–8.

In the middle frame, the Yorkton Terriers ran into early penalty trouble. With Thomas Ries and Riley Cormier in the penalty box, the Melfort Mustangs made the visitors pay, scoring a pair of power-play goals just 16 seconds apart as Danton Cox and Tristan Ziola both beat Montoya.

The latter marker signaled the end of the afternoon for Alexandro Montoya, who allowed four goals on 13 shots. Callum Creig came on in relief and stopped all the shots he faced.

Yorkton found some life late in the period as Tyler Palin’s point shot found its way past Madden Mulawka for his sixth of the season on the power play.

Despite the deficit, the Terriers heavily outshot the Mustangs 19–5 in the second period.

In the third period, the Yorkton Terriers continued to push in an effort to claw back into the game. They cut the lead to one on the power play as Gabriel Courchesne tapped home his second of the night on a nice feed from Tyler Palin.

Despite outshooting the Melfort Mustangs by a 2–1 margin in the game, Yorkton’s comeback bid ran out of time as they fell 4–3, marking their third straight loss.

The Terriers will now wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Melville Millionaires, beginning Friday night in the Rail City.
