Courchesne Scores Three, Crush Ice Wolves

The Yorkton Terriers came out flying in their matinee matchup with the La Ronge Ice Wolves, striking three times in the first six minutes to seize early control.

Newcomer Gavin Bartha opened the scoring just 80 seconds into the contest, notching his first goal in a Terrier uniform. The blue line continued to contribute when Tyler Palin found the back of the net, giving him two goals in as many games. Just 46 seconds later, the Terriers’ dangerous power play went to work, as Gabriel Courchesne buried his 20th goal of the season — and eighth on the man advantage.

La Ronge had an opportunity to get back into the game when Jaxen Smyth was awarded a penalty shot, but Alexandro Montoya stood tall to preserve the three-goal cushion.

Courchesne wasn’t done, striking again late in the opening frame after finishing off a setup from Jye Zawatsky.

Yorkton dominated the period, outshooting the Ice Wolves 20–4 after twenty minutes.

In the middle frame, the Terriers continued to build on their lead with yet another goal from the back end. This time it was Thomas Ries getting in on the scoring, wiring home his ninth of the season on the power play, with William Léonard collecting the lone assist.

Yorkton added its sixth of the afternoon off the stick of Cash Langian, who continues to impress in his rookie campaign, burying his 11th of the year.

The Ice Wolves chipped away at the six-goal deficit with a pair of late markers, but the Terriers still carried a commanding 6–2 lead into the locker room.

In the third period, the offence kept coming from the visitors as Jye Zawatsky notched his 15th of the season on the power play.

In the final stages of the contest, Gabriel Courchesne capped off a terrific afternoon by completing the hat trick, with his usual linemates William Léonard and Zawatsky picking up the assists. The trio combined for nine points in the victory.

The Terriers finished the road trip with wins in two of three games and moved into second place in the Bunge Division, jumping past the Estevan Bruins.

Yorkton returns home next weekend as the Kindersley Klippers visit Westland Arena.
