Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, the 5’11” blueliner brings both skill and leadership to the Terriers roster after a standout year with the Calgary Royals U18 AAA. In 35 games, Buckley tallied 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points, all while dawning the “C” and helping lead his team to a hard-fought playoff berth.
For Buckley, the decision to commit to Yorkton was a combination of culture, community, and opportunity.
“I decided to sign with the Terriers because I thought it was the best place I could continue to develop my skills,” said Buckley. “When I came up to watch the Terriers play in playoffs, I saw the amazing and dedicated fans they have, the hardworking team, the exciting atmosphere, and I got to meet the outstanding coaches and staff. All of that made it an easy decision.”
Head Coach and GM Emery Olauson shared the organization’s excitement in officially bringing Buckley into the fold.
“Brett Buckley is a player we wanted to add since late last season,” said Olauson. “He wore the ‘C’ for the Calgary Royals and willed his team into the playoffs. He is a strong skater, defends well, and possesses great offensive ability. On top of what he brings on the ice, we’re thrilled to add another team captain to our dressing room and to our community.”
Buckley’s goals for his rookie SJHL season go beyond statistics. He’s focused on growth both on and off the ice.
“I want to improve my speed, shooting, and hockey IQ, but I also want to grow as a person—learning to live away from home, building connections with new teammates, and giving back in the community,” Buckley said.
When he’s not at the rink, Brett enjoys time with family and friends, outdoor adventures, all kinds of sports, reading, and learning—traits that mirror the well-rounded character the Terriers strive to add to their locker room.
The Yorkton Terriers continue to build toward a promising 2025–26 season, and the addition of Buckley adds not just talent on the back end, but leadership and maturity well beyond his years.
